Air Travel Consolidators: Are They a Better Choice?

Thursday, April 17th, 2008
George Wood asked:

Consolidators or wholesalers are companies that buy airline tickets at very low prices in bulk and then sell them off to public at a discount rate than the original price set by the airline. They are the cheaper means to buy airline tickets from, because even after they have deducted their profit on the tickets, they are still cheaper for normal people like us. You must be wondering why airlines sell tickets at low prices. Actually, not all flights are booked seat-to-seat by the passengers. Because of this reason the airlines or air travel agencies have to sell tickets in order to make a full flight. And of course everyone involved in this game makes a profit this way.

You might have heard of brick & mortar travels or B&M Travels as they are commonly called. They are the offline consolidators specializing in providing cheap airfare to their customers whenever the demand for a certain flight grows. Online consolidators are also available and they are becoming increasingly popular these days. They are called online travel consolidators. Many websites that you will encounter while searching for cheap airfare are of these consolidators or air travel agencies. They are there to help you out in finding the cheapest flight, whether it is national or international, and they also advise you on choosing the right time for booking these flights.

Consolidators in the field of international air travel are the most helpful and useful source of saving a lot of money on airfare. Of course people are always looking for these consolidators or online cheap travel agencies to benefit from the services they have to offer. However, there are some points you should keep in mind before booking with one of these agencies. First of all, keep your options open. Consolidators all around the world offer different discount rates. Sometimes, you save only 10% and at other times, if you are lucky, you can even save up to 70% on your airfare! But it needs a little research and careful investigation before you can find such a consolidator. Furthermore, it also depends on the time of your flight and some other considerations including the destination location and the popularity of an airline.

Secondly, check the price of the airline ticket offered by your consolidator and see if it is inclusive of tax and other fees. Sometimes these companies list only the ticket cost and exclude taxes until the time of payment. This way they can advertise themselves quite cleverly, but do not fall in their trap. Check with other companies and compare their prices. Some websites let you compare prices only through a few clicks and a little information you provide. If possible, wait for a whole season and then see if the ticket rates have reduced. Then book yourself in advance to enjoy affordable and cheap airfare when the time is ripe.

You can tell the agent about the frequent flier program if you are enrolled into one. The consolidator will see if they find a matched price on one of the flights and will book you on it. If time is not of importance then tell your consolidator how flexible your dates are. They can find a good flight for you at the lowest possible price on a weekday or when there is little rush. This way you can travel safer and cheaper. Last but not the least, always check and double check you name and date of the flight and reservation after you have been handed over the ticket by your consolidator. Like every other business, there are traitors and dishonest persons out there so you need to keep an eye open.

Follow these steps and you will find a good consolidator very soon whether you are planning to fly national or international. Here are some consolidator websites to help you start your search from: Travelocity (travelocity.com), Hotwire (hotwire.com), Expedia (expedia.com), Cheap Travel (cheaptravel.com), and Airfare Choice (airfarechoice.com). However, do not rely on just these sites, as already said, keep your options open and keep looking for better and more reliable websites and consolidators to fly cheaper on your next trip.

Get Cheap Air Travel Rates The Easy Way

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008
Sandra Stammberger asked:

Before, traveling overseas can cost you a fortune. And to get a good and cheap air travel would require you to pull out several tricks just to make sure travel agents will give you what you want. But in the end, you have to settle for the rates that your travel agent has given you.

Today, to get cheap air rates whenever you plan to travel overseas it is not a great task. And with the help of the Internet, you can find several cheap air travel sites that can offer you deal that are really affordable. With a little navigation skill further, you can even dig dipper and get the best of the best deals available. To help you do this, here are some of the ways to get yourself a cheap air travel you have always wanted:

Do research. Do it thoroughly if you want. The Internet offers a lot to those who look closely and thoroughly. Visit several sites that offer cheap air travel deals. Use the search engine to pinpoint the sites that can help in your search. Read online articles regarding cheap air travel; they often offer several links that could lead you to travel agents that provide cheap air travel. If you have found a site, add it to your “favorites”. In this way, you can easily get back to it once you search for more sites. Compare the rates of all the sites you have chosen.

Sometimes, online research is not enough. If this happens, contact travel companies or tour operators and ask for cheap air travel rates or packages they offer.

Consider package deals. Especially if you are traveling for holiday vacation, taking package deals would give you cheap rates. When you arrange this, include to the list your plane tickets, hotel accommodation, car rental and other necessary itineraries like food coupons you think might help to lower the air travel rates.

Travel in a group. Several cheap air travel agencies offer big discounts when you travel with a group. If you are traveling alone, join open groups. Although you might not know who’s with you, you can always choose not to be with them.

Travel during off-peak season. Air travel rates are a lot cheaper when you visit a country in its off-peak season. Usually, the summer season is the most expensive time to schedule your trip. Except summer, you can get cheap air travel rate throughout the season (depending on the popularity of the destination).

Buy return flights. Although it is always a practice to buy return flights, you still cannot disregard the savings it could give to you. Buying two one-way tickets are more expensive than the return air tickets.

Make you flight open. Tell your airline operator that you are willing to get bumped. If you are after discount, this is for you. You might not get your scheduled flight but you can get discounts you can use on your next flight.

Fly on one airline. In this way, you can accumulate miles of points where you can use on your next flights.

There are more tips you can use to get cheap air travel but generally but the mentioned above is the most common. Be sure to do at least one or two and you are surely on your way to other country without spending so much.

Your Infomation When Air Travel

Monday, April 7th, 2008
Daniel Jowssey asked:

When you make air travel, you have to find for a lot of air travel infomation. It’s very important. Security check is an inevitable part of air travel. The security checkpoints are operated by the Transportation Security Officers from the Transportation Security Administration to prevent any harmful objects being carried by the terrorists or the travelers aboard.

Each passenger and his/her baggage have to undergo through the security check. This will take a longer time if it is a peak hour of traveling. It is so advised that all passengers be ready to cope up with the delay happening due to these security measures.

Though you cannot avoid it at all, you can take precautions while preparing for the journey. The following tips will ensure a hassle-free security checking.

Clothing: You are allowed to wear any types of clothing including the head covering. However, you may have to wait for additional security checking if you are wearing loose garments that are large enough to hide prohibited items. At the additional screening, there will be re-screening by the hand-wands and a pat-down inspection including the torso. The US airline policy suggests that the security screening should be done by the same gender.

You are not allowed to wear any type of jackets or coats while security check. It is advised that you keep your coats and jackets in the baggage and avoid the delay in the security check.

You are not allowed to wear shoes while security check. It is therefore advised that you keep disposable footwear that can be disposed after the screening.

Accessories such as metal ornaments, watch, big safety pins, belt-buckles, etc., can cause alarm and redirect you for additional checking. It is therefore advised that you avoid carrying accessories such as heavy ornaments and take out the removable items such as the mobile phones, PDAs, keys, etc., and keep them in the plastic bags provided there. You will be allowed to remove the other items at a private place and then go through the screening process again.

Identity Proof: Always carry the ID proof issued by the government authority along with the airline-boarding pass until the security check is over. Absence of an ID proof will mandate additional checking.

You can procure your boarding pass from the airline ticket counter or from the self-service ticket kiosk. You can also print it from the airline’s website.

Prohibited items: It is illegal to carry items such as weapons, metallic tools, explosives or items that catch fire easily. However, with effect from September 26, 2006, passengers are allowed to carry liquids, gels and aerosols in their carry-on bag. However, all liquids, gels and aerosols should be carried in three-ounce or smaller containers. Certain prescription drugs and over-the-counter medicines, baby food, ****** milk and other essential liquids are exempted from this rule. However, verify the details with the airlines authority before arriving at the airport.

It may take your precious time at the airport to wait and go through the stringent security check. But make a point that you follow the guidelines strictly and cooperate with the security personnel to ensure a safer travel.
